Sarah El Hamed

Sarah El Hamed is a French-Algerian performance artist who lives and works between Paris, Algiers and London. Inspired by her North-African heritage as well as by a diverse range of spiritual practices, El Hamed’s video performance, ‘Mots pour maux’ makes use of a wide variety of different gestures found in the syncretic spirituality of various esoteric traditions.   Her performances are spiritual, existential quests in which the audience can participate, blurring the boundaries of suspended reality.

A series of performances ‘Ceremony Mots Pour Maux,’ ‘First Seance’ and ‘Second Seance’ were presented live in Paris, where the audience was invited to annihilate and reverse Talion law through confession guided by El Hamed as the healer figure. The artist asserts that, ‘darkness can only be defeated by light’.

Sarah El Hamed is co-founder of nu-mi-die.
